Is this area affordable for graduate students. Is this a nice area to live in? Is it close to a metro line to go to DC?

Default Old Towne Alexandria

In my opinion it is one of the nicest places to live in the DC area and VA. There are METRO lines for easy access to DC. If you are wealthy, you will not have any problem living there.

I agree with roanoker4..we take two trips a year to that town...but you gotta have money, even to rent! Good luck finding housing in NOVA. Please be sure its safe and get a few roomrates to help with the rent maybe.

You don't have to be that wealthy. Craig's List has a 1-BR condo on Mt Vernon Ave at $1400/mo which is probably a pretty good deal, and since the budget goes to $1600/mo, Old Town proper might be tough, but the general area should be doable.

why not the west end of alexandria? A lot of young professionals, more affordable than old town, safe, and close to old town.

When you say west end, do you mean like Landmark? or maybe where the Eisenhower exit is?

He is a graduate student here, I think money is tight here, I seriously doubt that 1400 a month would be doable, then again, maybe he has a good income too, but most I know who are grad students do not have 1400 a month for rent!
