Hi all!
I'm in town for the week trying to line up schooling for my 4 and 6 yr old. I'd like to visit some programs in the Reston Herndon area but am not sure where to look. I'd appreciate some sUggestions. Thanks!

There aren't a lot of full day preschools in the area. There are a few Montessori schools with aftercare programs, but most of the places that are just preschools are half-day only. RCC has a full-day program for pre-K, but I find them to be completely overpriced.

There are plenty of centers with a preschool curriculum they follow.

OK, a 9-3 program (the schedule I assume you are looking for?) is best found at Montessori schools. Again, most places that call themselves preschools in this area are half-day (3 hours, usually in the morning).

We just recently had to look for a possible new pre-K for our daughter (her center is ending PT schedules), and did not find much out there that would work for us. The 9-3 schedule would have been OK, but we can't afford Montessori prices.

Good luck!

I agree with Hilsmom that it's hard to find full-day or long-day preschool around here. I was working partime in Rockville so was looking for longer days but only a few days per week, and it was next to impossible. You can look into Hunter Mill Country Day School. It's technically in Vienna but it's on the corner of Lawyers Road and Hunter Mill so not too far from Reston. We didn't end up going there but I know people who did and liked it.

Some preschools have a regular 9-12 day and may do a lunch bunch program. But it's usually only until 1:00. I know a place in Falls Church that does it until 2:00 or 2:30 but that won't help you. There's a place in Vienna called Appletree II that does full day preschool but it looks like the prices are about the same as RCC, and there's typically a long waiting list.

Yes, LANK is just half day, except for their private K program. Plus, I wouldn't count on being able to get into any of the preschools - they fill up in February for the following school year.

RCC has a full-day program, but it looks like it costs $1200/month. That is more than I would pay for full-time daycare at my daughter's daycare center. Plus, RCC is the "sought-after" preschool, so I would imagine they are full with a several year long waitlist.

Default Montessori of Herndon

Hilsmom-

I visited Montessori of Herndon and Reston Childcare Center. We're going to go with Montessori of Herndon. In my opinion the two are light years apart. RCC is nice, but very touchy feely and I don't think that it would be intellectually challenging to my 4 yr old. Not to mention it's WAYYY over priced for what it is. Not sure why someone would send their child there instead of kindercare, etc. Anyway. I was very very impressed with Montessori/Aiken school of herndon. Thanks for your help!
