Just wondering if you guys have any traditions for New Year's Day (or New Year's Eve). We've always taken the entire family for a round of mini golf--but with all the snow we're getting this year I think we may need to borrow someone else's tradition.

We cook homemade chinese food as our tradition. The reason it became a tradition was it kept the kids really busy, chopping up all the vegetables. For dessert we have "sushi" which is really a gummy fish cut up and tied on top of a macaroon. Then you wrap it with a fruit rollup. You'd be surprised how much it looks like real sushi.

We spend the evening putting together a challenging jigsaw puzzle, playing games, watching movies. As the New year approaches we switch to the New Year's eve specials on t.v.

We usually have roast duck and wild rice for dinner - something we do only once a year. And I put out an assortment of snacks in the evening and do a champaigne toast at midnight.

My annual New Year's tradition is just to try to get some serious R&R! Lol, all kidding aside though, my immediate family's traditions are much the same as EuroExpat and springfieldva in terms of resting, watching Christmas TV and other movies, along with good food and the usual great holiday munchies.

A couple of years ago we started making fondue for New Year's Eve. First we do cheese fondue with bread and veggies for dipping. Then we do chocolate fondue with fruit and cookies for dipping. Fattening? Yes, but for once a year it's a lot of fun.

Back in '99, when I wed my lovely wife, New Year's Day became "Valerie's Birthday"! Yup, my wife was born on January 1....

Valerie LOVES New York, so our New Year's tradition is to hop on the Acela train for several days of drinkin', shoppin', and...nevermind in the Big Apple.

We got smart a few years ago and started staying at the Marquis Hotel in Times Square. The views of the crowd and the ball drop from the hotel bar seriously beats freezing one's arse off outside!

Michgc....we also do fondue for New Years Eve. We wanted to do something a little different and special because we traditionally stay home that night. Fondue is fun and something the kids (now we do it with the grandkids) enjoy.

We also have sparkling apple juice at midnight. If we can make it that late

LOL, maybe I'll try the fondue. I actually have a fondue pot that someone gave me as a wedding gift. Still has the wrapper on it. Time to dust that puppy off and start a new tradition. And I can see my first New Years resolution is going to be: Figure out where the heck we stored that fondue pot!
