My commute from West End Alexandria to Ballston has a very frustrating part which is the very poorly designed Glebe Rd.

It is terrible because of these reasons.

1. NO CENTER TURN LANE!!!!!! Cars wanting to make left turns will hold up traffic forever because of the volume of oncoming traffic.
2. The stupid ART and Metrobuses on the right side of the road will compound the first problem meaning you'll have a very frustrating commute.
3. That bus stop on Glebe Northbound not even 40 yards after the Columbia Pike intersection usually backs up traffic to 12th St S meaning you'll have to wait at least two lights to go through the intersection of Glebe and Columbia.
4. The worst part is that interchange to go from Glebe Rd southbound to 395 South. Who in the designed that interchange?! I have to wait 5 minutes for a break in traffic then gas it to get onto 395 which can be death-defying sometimes.

Sure my commute aint but 30 minutes at the worst but it is a very frustrating 30 minutes. If I leave at 4 it isn't horrible, after 4 !!

If anyone has a way to get to Ballston Commons without Glebe Rd from West End Alexandria I'd love to hear it.

Go a little farther west and cut around to S. Four Mile Run, take a right on S. George Mason and take that up to Ballston.

I'll try that out. May add a little time but maybe it takes off a lot of frustration.

I suggest Carlin Springs Rd -- two lanes and no one blocks the right lane with parked cars as can happen on George Mason.

I like Carlin Springs as well, I'm just thinking that's even less convenient to get to for the original poster.
