If you have younger children, Dulles Town Center has an indoor playground on the second floor. Let me tell you, it's the place to be on a day like today. As an extra bonus for the parents, it's right next to a chocolate store that has really great tea and coffee. DTC also usually has concerts, clowns, and other entertainment for the kids at this time of year.

That place will be PACKED!! I have safety concerns about it.. But Santa should be there? Not on the playground (duh) but underneath it, next to Starbucks. Maybe we should head there. Going crazy at home!

We did the train ride a few weeks ago. My 6'4" husband is still trying to stand up straight! Wish I had a camera when he tried to get out. His knees were up to chest.

I will never let my kids in that play thing again! It is so dirty and packed with kids with runny noses. Yuck. After letting them do it several times and always resulting in a sickness afterwards no way!

??? Packed with kids, yes. I can definitely relate to the concerns about how many kids will be there today. But I don't agree with the cleanliness concerns. Maybe we've just seen it at different times. Since it's indoors and cleaned throughout the day along with the rest of the mall, from my observation it's cleaner than any outdoor playground. But, YMMV.

Not sure what to suggest if you want a completely germ free play spot--I guess the best thing is to have them play in the snow in your yard. I like playing indoors after a few days of playing outdoors because with my kids playing in the snow is what eventually leads to them catching colds. But everyone's different, and it's true that if they're in your own yard they won't be exposed to other kids.

One of the problems with that playground is that it says "toddler playground" and there's a height restriction, but there are always much older kids running around and knocking little kids over. I do like the train and the carousel ride.
