Brrrrrrrrrrrrrr it's 16 degrees outside right now. Come on, spring!

Oh well, at least the temps are going back up to the 40s by the end of the week.

Months and months??? Seriously? I thought that January was colder than Dec, but that by March we are warming up! Is March spring-time?? (I am from CA, I havent the slightest idea when the seasons are)

LOL, no need to worry. Virginia is not like Cleveland, where winter digs in and then you have nothing but a steady freeze for the next several months.

So, what is Virginia like? Well, first things first--this year is bizarre. So I can't make any guarantees about what we're going to see this year. Right now, nothing would surprise me.

But in general, we have mild weather through December. The winter storms usually start in January (although some years we get nothing at all). Late January/February usually has the most snow, but between storms you often get a week or two of fairly warm days. You also get a few wind storms (although not usually as extreme as what we had today).

March is full of surprises. We usually get a snowstorm in March, and sometimes it's a pretty big storm. At the same time, you're likely to have long periods of mild, warm weather before and after that storm. By late Feb you'll start seeing joggers wearing shorts, and by early March the spring flowers start blooming.

Ok, so we do have approx 2.5 mos of cold with some warm thrown in! At least not months and months of this cold! My mom sent me a warm-ish rain jacket for Christmas, besides that I have just a wool coat from LLBean...not really cutting it for our recent temps.

I guess I need to get something for really cold weather if I have a couple more months!

Yes, get a nice warm coat and a warm hat that covers your ears. Not a cutesy-wootsy hat that sits on top of your head--if your ears are warm you'll enjoy snow much more. As soon as you buy these things, Murphy's Law is likely to kick in and we'll probably have warm weather for the rest of the winter. Which is the best reason of all to buy a good winter coat!

The good news is, winter coats are probably going on sale already. Time for the stores to start bringing out the shorts, t-shirts, and lawn furniture...

treebw, please rush out and buy a very heavy winter coat, I will keep my fingers crossed that Murphy's Law will kick in and it will warm up.

Thanks for that great idea Normie.

Oh if only I could manipulate Murphy, I'd go out and buy a dozen pair of mittens this very minute!
