Okay, not the most important question of our time but I've been wondering why we never see chipmunks around here in Mount Vernon. We have tons of grey and black squirrels but none of their littler brothers. I have seen them further north toward Alexandria and in Maryland but not down here. Is there a chipmunk line perhaps?

They're all out here in Loudoun, partying down.

We have/had two - hoping they are holing up for the winter but they are so cute! They run up onto our deck in the warm months.

We must have some kind of bad chipmunk karma over here.

They were all over the place in Culpeper when I was growing up, and I've seen them where I now live in Staunton.

Probably some rumor going around in the chipmunk world. They're telling each other that George Washington made chipmunk stew to feed the troops and they're thinking of serving it at Mt. Vernon.

I knew George was involved somehow! Perhaps they weren't good Federalists [suddenly the chipmunk thread turns into an ugly free-for-all between Hamilitonian Federalists and Jeffersonian Democrat-Republicans].
