So my other question might not get many replies because I realize I'm living in a slightly different culture here, so does anyone know of any food co-ops around Reston? Not the kind of co-op that is a store but the kind where people buy a bunch of food in bulk together and split it up, saving a bunch of money.

There are a few listed in this thread. They're located in Loudoun, which is fairly close to Reston.

Time to order local Thanksgiving turkeys

Really? I'm a mom. I'd love to find such a group.

There is a group of local farmers and processors who bought their produce to sell at Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Fairfax (Pinnacle Academy) parking lot at Oakton every Saturday. Farm raised beef, home-baked gluten free, home-made salsa,.....
They are open every Saturday from 10 to 1 pm. They deliver too

Default Pinnacle Academy

Pinnacle Academy is actually further up Hunter's Mill from UUCF (if you're coming from Reston). Coming from Reston, it'll be the turn before the Oakton Library.

Hi, I noticed that you mentioned food coop's in Loudoun. Do you have any contact info or links? I didn't see them in the thread (perhaps I wasn't looking in the right place). We also have shopped at Wegman's and love it, but we need to do some serious adjustments in our food budget. :-)

You may find some of the responses in this more recent thread to be helpful.

Yes, in this area this sort of arrangement is more commonly known as a CSA - Community Supported Agriculture. A farm will have an arrangement with a group of families. Sometimes there is a middleman and a network of farmers and customers. These tend to be seasonal April through October, though not all of them. These tend to come and go, pickup and delivery points are limited and specific, so Google is your friend. Here are some ideas to get you started:
