Really???

A very quick search turned up the following tribes in Maryland and Virginia:

Algonquian
Catawba
Cherokee
Chickahominy
Croatoan
Lenape
Mattaponi
Monacan
Nansemond
Nanticoke
Pamunkey
Powhatan
Rappohannock
Shawnee
Susquehannock
Tuscarora
Tutelo & Saponi
Yuchi

So I'd say the name is very representative of this area.

The Washington Chickahominies has a nice ring to it. Also, the Washington Pamunkeys.

My guess is she didn't mean there were no tribes in this area... what she meant was "redskins" isn't a term associated with this area. It's more of a slang word from in the wild west. I don't recall George Washington or John Adams debating "redskins." (Then again, I wasn't there so what do I know?. I'm old but I'm not that old!! )

LOL, and if they start losing, we can easily change it to the Washington Weeners. If they start going boo hoo hoo about it, they become the Washington Whiners. The press would have lots of fun with it--I like it!

If I have learned anything in my relatively short life so far, it's that you can never please everyone, no matter how hard you try. I have always loved the name "Redskins", as well as their logo, and the team in general. Heck, I remember watching them as a kid when Gibbs took them to multiple Super Bowl victories, and therefore everyone knows full well that the name has absolutely no bearing upon their presence as a Championship Team (Or current lack thereof).

Don't forget the Patawomeck (Hence, where we get the name "Potomac" from).

Actually it's easier than you think. I get most of my thread ideas from reading the newspaper. This one was inspired from something I read in the Washington Post yesterday. A columnist thought he might have jinxed the Redskins. Apparently a while back he had printed some sort of voodoo curse because he was irritated over the name change issue.

When it comes to inpiring threads, the little local papers are the best. I almost always find something in the Loudoun Independent that's worthy of starting a thread.
