I don't know if this is indicative, but when I moved here 30 years ago I heard the local tidewater accent every day---now I here it just a few times a week.

Default In the inimitable words of JFK:

Washington is a city of Southern efficiency and Northern charm.

LOL!! It's great to see people stopping by this forum who just want to start a fun conversation, but this one's been done to death, folks.

Here's my suggestion. Read through the Washington Post or some other local newspaper. All kinds of inspiration there--whatever local story catches your eye, bring that up as a topic. Lots of great stuff to talk about in Nova, we don't have to keep beating the poor dead horse.

On the off chance that you've never seen one of these "Is Nova Northern or Southern" threads before, here are just a few of the many where you can find your answers.

do you consider nova northern or southern

Is Nova part of the south

Pockets of southern in nova

Is virginia considered part of the south

Is it unusual to have a strong virginia accent in nova

You can also find just as many (if not more) such threads on the General US forum.

Yes.

LOL Actually to me it's become more international than anything. But the Southern cultural influence would seem to be receding away from Alexandria and Arlington as well as Fairfax and (eastern) Loudoun Counties.
