Looks like crime was down this year in Loudoun County, despite the recession (and a high profile murder last June). Not sure about the other counties, but I think I heard this was true across Nova, not just in Loudoun.

Aggravated assaults were down by 8 percent, robberies by 11 percent, automobile thefts by 24 percent, larcenies by 14 percent, and rapes by 37 percent, according to the Sheriff’s Office. The creation of community groups are being credited. (Neighborhood watch programs, but also book clubs, poker games, BBQs, and other activities that build a sense of connection).
