To the question on the autumn leaves plate, it is a standard plate, so there is only a one time fee, same with the Mountains to Seashore and Dogwood/Cardinal plate.
Perfect. Thanks!

My car's plates start with X, and so do two of my co-workers' plates.
I think that is the new standard lettering. When I got my car in 07, they were lettering all the standard issue plates beginning with K that year.

I wanted to get "AUDIT U", but someone had already taken it. I was thinking of "AUDITME" or "RATRACE." Maybe "SPEEDY7". "RESTON" was already taken, as was "ESTON" (with the little Realtor "R" in front of it). How about "DORKUS?"

How cool that you have the plates your dad had!

You should have no trouble acquiring a 1967 Virginia license plate. HOWEVER, be careful....some plate dealers will sell you a plate type that was never used on passenger cars. (I'm sure most plate sellers don't know the difference themselves.)

In 1967, Va plates for cars had two configurations...six numerals with a dash in the middle (xxx-xxx)... and six numerals with the prefix "A" (Axxx-xxx).

I see cars all the time with vintage plates that were originally issued for use on trucks, tractors, etc....NOT CARS! Most folks wouldn't notice...but us old-timers will snicker when you go by in a car with truck plates on it!

The way that standard issue Virginia plates are configured is three letters and 4 numerals.

The "X" series starts at XAA...then XAB...then XAC and so on through XZZ. Each letter combination provides for almost 9,000 license plates (1000-9999). They don't use 0001-1000.

I'll leave the math to someone else, but this system allows for a HUGE number of plates that start with the letter "X". It will take several years to exhaust the "X" series tags....and then they'll start over with "Y" tags (or some other letter...for some reason, they jump around the alphabet).

They've already done Y - I got my car in 2007, and my plate is YUJ...

For some strange reason, all the x, y and z have been issued pre-2004. However for some strange reason for the 2007 Virginia bi-centennial ,during the 2004-2007 they started the J## 1234 thru K##-1234. Now we're back at issuing x, y and z again.
