Default Old Town Alexandria, moving again

Hello all, my hubby is stationed at Quantico and I am interviewing for a couple of positions at Pentagon, Alexandria and DC. We are looking into renting our house out and moving into one of the high-rise complexes next month or so. We are just tired of suburban living and also my commute was just a nightmare last year.

Our wish list:
We have two medium size dogs. Having a dog park or walking area would be wonderful.
Easy access to Old town Alexandria restaurants and shops. (within walking distance)
grocery store, coffee shop etc.

We are very interested living in a loft but I am not sure if there is any in that area.

I looked at CARLYLE PLACE online and 2BR 2BATH is listed at $1840
Can this place give us what we are looking for? And also are there any other places you can recommend that are closer to the Old Town?

We are comfortable with a place up to $2000 a month.

We are also planning on starting a family soon so living in a family oriented place is important.

Your help is greatly appreciated. Thanks alot!

If you're looking for high rises near Old Town, the Carlyle area is definitely the place to be. There's also a dog park a few blocks away from Carlyle Place. If you haven't already looked, take a look at Meridian at Carlyle and Post Carlyle Square. Those two complexes are maybe a half mile closer to Old Town than Carlyle Place is.

Closer to Old Town is mostly townhomes and low-rise condos.

I would agree with everything that pcity says here... although these days, some of those condo units might be available for rent. So that might be worth investigating.

Another thought: there may be some rentals in Del Ray of some of the smaller rancher homes. That neighborhood is very popular with younger families. It's a short drive/bus ride to the Braddock Road Metro. Not sure about a dog park but there are plenty of sidewalks to walk your furry companion.
