My family and I recently moved to Northern Virginia. I have a bachelors degree (in psychology) but have decided to pursue an RN license. In evaluating all of our choices, my husband and I have decided to do it through NVCC (GMU's accelerated second degree option was the other alternative but the schedule and relative cost weren't a good fit for us).

I'm just wondering what the reputation of NVCC is like. Is it generally respected (as far as community colleges go)? Input regarding the nursing program (and employment prospects ) is especially helpful but I would love any information about the college as a whole.

I have taken many classes thru NVCC at both the Manassas and Woodbridge campuses. I am not a teen but a recently retired police officer so I was taking the classes for career development. I have nothing but good things to say about the campus. Both the teaching and admin staff. I know instructors there who have taught at the "Big" schools and left to teach a smaller more structured class setting. We are sending our son there now for his 2 year degree before he goes to to another school for his 4 year degree.

it is supposedly the best community college. I've taken classes there and have found some instructors to be a little shoddy, while some were phenomenal but i suppose even many universities are like that as well.

I've taken classes there, and it seems fine. The school doesn't seem to have many extra-curricular activities, but the classes were good.

I have a masters degree from another university, but have taken classes (5) at NoVa just for fun (business and information tech)---all of my teachers were excellent.

Honestly, it's the best bang for your buck in the area. Many of the teachers there also teach at GMU, and some of the colleges in DC. I once had an English class with a professor who also taught at Georgetown! Just one thing to remember: there are about 5-6 major campuses, and 2-3 satellite ones. Every campus has an entirely different feel to it, so if you don't like one, chances are you can go to another and take the same classes.

I've taught at NVCC and I think I'm a pretty good teacher. ;-) But seriously -- the programs that I have had been involved with were very good and the instructors were top notch.
