Did we get more snow in 2003 or this time around?
it's been snowing for 24 hours in Sterling, VA (it's saturday morning right now), and it's going to snow another 10 hours. we currently have more than 2 feet of snow.

did we get more during that crazy 2003 snow storm?

Not sure what the "official" totals at Reagan are yet. Who knows though, because Reagan always seems to have less snow fall than the surrounding area. It's like it's located in its own little bubble.

This one's much bigger than 2003 and 1996. If not the biggest in history, probably in living memory.

Are you sure? The local weather guys were sayingb that the 96 storm was about 24-30 inches. the 2003 storm was 18-27 inches. So far we have had 18-25 (higher in a few spots)

For some reason the "official" measurement is always a good bit less than the "yardstick in the backyard" measurement. Maybe because the National Weather Service people are typically men...and everybody knows guys are no good at measuring "things"...

Anyway, the most snow I can remember in my life was the '79 storm...but number one on every list I've ever seen was the Knickerbocker storm of 1922 (or '28?)...so named because the roof of that DC theatre caved in from the weight of the snow, killing lots of moviegoers. I think that storm officially measured 28 inches.

OK, this is for the guys then! Everybody go outside and stick your "thing" (whatever it is you use to measure by) in the snow. Let's measure just how deep this is!

In 2003, My area had around 26 inches (Beltsville, MD). Now,it's more like 20 inches. Not the same place though. The current snowfall will get pretty close to 2003, and surpass it in some places.

Brrrr, it's a little bit too cold to be sticking your "thing" in the snow!
