Default Commuter Lot Thread- Please help update!

Hi folks,

Well, we all know that it will be a while for us to dig out from Snowpocalype 2: Woolly Bear's Revenge, the snowstorm before that, and the one before that, not to mention the one coming in two days.

In the meantime, however, some of us will be expected to go to work. And just because the Feds are closed tomorrow (which I would benefit from, except that a major project is due soon and I will have to telework) does not mean that people won't have to go into DC. So, please help your fellow NoVA resident by updating the condition of any commuter lots that you have seen or heard about.

For example, I live near the Old Hechinger lot in Woodbridge, so I walked over this afternoon to see if VDOT or PWC had done anything to it. There are a few ripples in a sea of white where maybe they tried plowing on Friday afternoon when only an inch or two was on the ground. Since then, it hasn't been touched. Therefore, unless a small army of plows and front-loaders work on it in the next 12 hours, Old Hechinger's will be completely closed on Monday.

So, what are the commuter lots near you like? Can they be used at all?

Bumping because this is a great topic and this thread is getting lost in the cracks.

Well, I went by Old Hechingers and the Rt. 123 Commuter lots today ~2pm. To VDOT's credit, a plow has now touched them. There is a clear path wide enough for the PRTC buses to make it to the stops/ bus shelters. However, except for a couple of parking spots that my wife said she saw in the Rt. 123 lot, not a single parking spot is plowed. So, if you can walk to one of those two lots (which would mean walking on Old Bridge and/or Gordon Blvd-Rt. 123, since the sidewalks won't be seen until March at the earliest), you might be able to catch a bus. However, if you drive to the commuter lots, no luck.

If anyone else has an update on a commuter lot, please contribute it. I know that Horner is a major one in the Woodbridge area, but I haven't been by it. This thread will definitely need to be resurrected after the Tues-Wed event when hopefully we might have a week or 10 days without a significant snowstorm.

Please stay safe and warm, all.

Well, I did a similar thread on the slug-lines forum, and here's a report on Horner:

On my way home from work yesterday, I stopped by Horner Road for a little fun. It's got a thin layer of ice, but is mostly clean. I feel sorry for whomever has to dig out the VPSI vans though...

On my way in to work this morning, it looked like they still hadn't gotten to the on/off ramps that take HOV traffic into the lot though. I took the HOV ramp prior to the lot itself.

Both HOV and main lanes have 2-3" of packed snow and ice with lots of divots and ruts in them. It's like offroading... And the black ice is treacherous. The walls of snow that were plowed against the jersey walls on I-95 melted and refroze.
