So far Metro hasn't announced above ground service for Monday morning, or bus service. Any chance taxis will be running? If I can just get from the Landmark area to the Rosslyn Metro station I will be happy.

A friend with a truck said 395 was still very slick this afternoon. You may want to call Red Top Cab in Arlington - they have always been extremely reliable when I've called them, and I think they will tell you if they will be running tomorrow.

I saw a yellow cab on Rt. 7 in Falls Church when I was out walking earlier today. So there are definitely some taxis out already...but competition for them might be stiff...

You MIGHT have luck trying to get a cab from a main, cleared road to another easily reached main, cleared road - be aware there are surcharges added.

I'd say it depends on the cabbie.

What cab companies really are is car rental companies and radio dispatch service providers. You pay to rent the cab and the gas....whatever you make above that goes in your pocket. Some cabbies own the cab and they just pay a fee for the company "colors" and for the radio dispatching.

Thanks all. It's almost embarrassing how long it takes us to get back up and running, isn't it? None of the local dispatch (self-styled 24-7) companies were answering this afternoon and tonight. Will try again in the morning. Or try driving myself -- a truly frightening thought.

I saw cabs running up and down 395 yesterday and I live in the Landmark area.

Well, if I was a taxi driver, today would be like Christmas. Drivers will get countless fares and be able to charge extra. A day like today can bring in enough money to pay your bills for the whole month. So I'll bet you'll see a LOT of cabs out and about today.
