If there's any possibility you bought a lottery ticket last summer, I hope you've checked your pockets for it.

Someone bought the winning Mega Ball lottery ticket at the Giant Food on Catoctin Circle in Leesburg on Aug. 21st. They have until Feb 18th to collect the $250,000 winnings. Otherwise tough luck, Chuck.

The winning numbers for that drawing were 9-38-44-48-49 and the Mega Ball was 13. The ticket matched the first five numbers and did not match the Mega Ball number.

According to Virginia Lottery rules, winning tickets expire 180 days after the drawing. All unclaimed prize money then goes to the state Literary Fund, which is used for school construction, renovation and teacher retirement funding.

If nobody claims it today, the money goes to the schools. So in a way I kind of hope nobody claims it. The schools could use the money right now.
