Default Information on Woodbridge area

My wife and I are relocating to DC area. We found a couple of decent looking homes (meaning they are in good condition and reasonably priced) and have narrowed it down to 2; one in Springfield and one in Woodbridge, Marumsco Hills area.

Any problems in that area that anyone would be willing to forewarn me about?

Thanks in advance!

Ok, Marumsco Hills is specific for Woodbridge. Where in Springfield?

Near Cardinal Park. That's all I know. The wife is doing most of the shopping until I can get there.

I'm leaning toward Marumsco Hills, but I'd like to know a little more about the area.

Any information is appreciated.

I'm not sure about "Cardinal Park". Perhaps "Cardinal Forest"? Let us know. If it is Forest, then I would strongly lean towards Cardinal Forest if it is indeed that.

As a Woodbridge resident, Marumsco Hills is one of the least desirable neighborhoods.

Although I've lived in Woodbridge for a number of years, I really don't know anything about Marumsco Hills, although in general the communities along or close to Route 1 (near "downtown" Woodbridge) are not considered desirable.

I suggest you read what has already been said about this area in other threads. Go to the Northern Virginia forum, and on the right side of the page, down a bit from the top, you'll see a Search This Forum link. Click on that, and search for Marumsco. I just did, and there are 20 threads that include information/impressions about Marumsco.

Marumsco Hills is definately one of the worse parts of Woodbridge if not the worse the schools are terrible and the crime is outrageous its a very low income area. There are better parts in Woodbridge more expensive too but I would take Springfield over Marunsco hills any day. The Giand food store in Marumsco Hills closed down last year that should tell you something about the area.

Where will you two be working? The suggestion is to live as close to where you work, because the traffic can be horrible in this area. So if you work in DC, I'd lean towards the Springfield home.

I'd also second ChristineVA's comment about Marumsco Hills. It's not the worst area to live in, but it's not the greatest IMO. This area was hit hard with a lot of foreclosures so there are a lot of abandoned homes. I suspect it'll be that way for a while. The power lines are above ground if that makes a difference to you (it's a pet peeve of mine so that's why I mention it)

As a former police officer who worked in Woodbridge you couldn't pay me enough to live in Marumsco Hills. That should tell you enough.
