Hi - just wondering if anyone knew when or if Loudoun County does a paint can drop off? We are new to the area and have to get rid of nearly two dozen cans. We live in Cascades. THANKS!

There's a drop off point at the waste facility on Evergreen Mill Road in Leesburg. Also, the Loudoun Times and the Loudoun Independent regularly note hazardous waste drop off events in local neighborhoods. It seems like they do this 4-5 times a year, maybe even once a month. I'd call the county government, they'd know for sure. Also, Reston does this quite a bit and I'm sure they'd be happy to take your items too.

Oh, by the way, welcome to Virginia! When did you move in? Sorry your initial experience has to be a blizzard.

Latex paints can be disposed of in your regular trash pickup. You have to let the cans dry out completely first.

Oil-based paints have to be taken to one of the county's monthly Household Hazardous Waste disposal events. Here is the schedule for 2010 (http://www.loudoun.gov/Default.aspx?tabid=742#schedule - broken link). The next one is March 20 from 8:30-2:30 at Heritage High School in Leesburg.

THanks! We moved in in September.. we're from Cleveland, Ohio though.. so we are used to the snow. This is like a typical March/April for us!
thanks again- jen

Yes, it is a little bit of a pain, but if it is latex paints, they likely will not take them at the hazardous disposal events. You can buy paint hardener stuff at hardware stores that helps dry the latex paints, or use newspaper, kitty litter, etc to dry them. 12 full cans will be a project.

cdmurphy already provided great information for oil based.
