My boyfriend and I are an interracial couple looking to move a few blocks from the Huntington metro. I was wondering what the Huntington area was like and whether or not anyone would care. I was also wondering what the racial makeup of the area was like - is it all mixed in or are there areas where particular groups can be found? Thanks!

I get what the stats say, but I want to know what it's really like for someone living there. What it feels like more than what it is like I guess.

Pretty mixed from my observations. No one race dominates the area.

Huntington is a pretty small place so there really isn't a "white" area, "black" area, "Hispanic" area, etc.

Believe me - no one would look twice at any member of any particular race in Huntington.

Trust me, no one will care at all. It is pretty open around here.

ok, here is my 2 cents...
1. It is a very mixed neighborhood
2. It is not "ghetto" It is pretty much middle class... you could say that its a little rough around the edges, but to call the entire neighborhood ghetto is just not accurate.

By suburban standards, many of the older houses - there are some brand new ones there - are a bit shabby but certainly not "ghetto" status.

Without even looking at zipskinny, I can say it's a roughly even mix of white and hispanic with some black residents thrown in. If you count the high rise apartments and condos near Route 1/Richmond Highway, then it's essentially the United Nations. But then, that would make it a microcosm of a good portion of NOVA.

Ghetto? Ummmmm, no. Not unless your definition of ghetto means "lower middle class suburban." Also, the word ghetto means all one race or religion lives in an area--Huntington is the exact opposite. People of every color live there.

Some of your comments lately have me scratching my head. Like the time you said there were boarding houses along the frontage roads. I'm curious, have you ever lived here? I know you live in Phoenix now, just wondering if you're basing your comments on any actual time spent living here and how long ago that was.
