I just checked, where I used to rent the basement in the Buffalo Ridge Neighborhood. Down 4.6%. Also, looked in 22042, at a friend's house; down 20.05%.

Default I guess I should be happy, no?

The assessed value of my current house (that I bought in 2008) hasn't changed in value from 2009. Neither have my neighbors' houses so that's consistent.

But the house that I sold in 2008 before moving to this one went down by 17% from 2009! I guess I should be happy, no?

Regards,
K

Keep in mind that the county assessment does not necessarily match market value. A better gauge of what your property is worth is the recent sales. Although in my case, both are very depressing. I should have sold several years ago.

Except for the fact that most of them are certified appraisers using the same metrics as other residential appraisers.

Anybody know when the 2010 RE tax rate is announced? With most assessments going down or staying the same, I wouldn't be surprised if the 2010 RE tax went up!

***Warning! RANT ahead***

If my RE taxes go higher, I'm going to be a sure shot candidate to get hit by the AMT this year! :-(

Regards,
K

My assessment stayed the same. Rats, I really thought it was going to go down. Not like I wanted it to plummet, but I was hoping it would go down a little.

They've proposed that the rate increase to $1.09 per $1000/value. It's $1.04 currently. I think the Board of Supervisors meets in the next couple of weeks and they'll decide the rate. Feel free to contact them!
