I've googled zip 22554 and don't recognize any of the names. Out here on the West Coast we have Ralphs (Kroger), Vons, Pavilions, Albertsons, Stater Brothers.....anyone recognize these names? Probably not, right?

What are the major grocery chains in that area?

Also, I googled Asian supermarkets and found the nearest ones are 30+ miles away, close to the Beltway. GASP! Are there really NO Asian supermarkets closer to Stafford?

Thanks all!

Hi! Yes, I recognize those names...I lived in Orange County/Los Angeles County/San Diego County from1988-2006.

Out here the main grocery stores are Safeway, Giant, Bloom, Shoppers Food Wherehouse, Harris Teeter...where I am in Prince William County we also have some Super Targets and Walmart Supercenters...Do you know where you are moving to in Stafford?

I recognize your store names from when I've been on travel/vacation. We don't have those chains here.

As HereinVA posted, we have Safeway, Giant, ,Bloom, Shoppers, Harris Teeter, and Wegmans. Down in Fredericksburg and *maybe* Stafford, they have a chain called Ukrops which is supposed to be decent. I don't think Wegman's has made it to Stafford but I think there may be plans for it, or at least in Fredericksburg.

The Asian supermarkets go where the Asian population is. Prince William County and points south don't have large Asian populations like the counties closer to DC. Prince William County does have Global Foods and the Super Q mart. I don't like them as much as I like the Super H mart in Fairfax. I'm sure Stafford will get one eventually...

Safeway is actually the same store as Vons. That is the west coast name for it.

Ukrop's was sold to the company who owns Giant, and the one in Fredericskburg is either closing or has already closed.

Richmond has Kroger. That's where we shopped when we lived in Richmond. Wegman's is a thousand times nicer if you don't mind a short drive. Giant is eh, I find it to be not as nice as Kroger, but it's a suitable substitute.

There's a Wegman's in Fredericksburg, which is equivalent to a cross between a Ralph's and a Gelsons. Unfortunately, there's nothing on the order of a Bristol Farms in Stafford, and your nearest Whole Foods is going to be in Springfield (about 30 miles each way).

The nearest H Marts are going to be in the closer-in DC suburbs, but I would think that there would be a smaller Asian specialty market somewhere closer to Stafford.

The Super Q Mart is on Rt. 1 just north of Dumfries. It is near the River Ridge development and Rt. 1. It used to be a Giant Food. I would say that is about a 20 minute ride north of Stafford, depending on where you're coming from.

There's an Aldis under construction on Garrisonville RD where Peebles used to be, rumor has it that a Trader Joes is going up in Aquia Town Center but I can't substantiate it at this time.

Wegman's has everything that I used to have to go to health food stores for. I would bet they have Asian specialty items. It is the first grocery store that doesn't make me miss Publix.

In comparison to an Asian supermarket, nope, they don't do too well.

My friend told me that Danny Wegman has stated that his biggest competition in Fairfax is the Super H Mart.
