One of the best tips I got on this forum was the advice to join a meet-up group. It took me years to try it but now I'm a big fan. I belong to a walking group and have met some really good friends this way. Also, walking around my town with a group of people is letting me see it in fresh new ways. Forget the formal clubs with dues and officer roles and rules and regulations. Meet-up groups are the way to go.

Hmm.... no tips off the top of my head (c'mon, some of you guys tried to talk me out of Fairfax City ).

But I've enjoyed learning some really cool historical tidbits about the area from irvine, normie, and car54 (and probably some others I'm forgetting).

Thanks to cdmurphy for the tip about the Udvar-Hazy Air and Space Museum's free parking after 4:00. In the summer the museum is open until 6:30, so that gives you ample time to go through the museum. Plus, it's a delightful time of day to be there because the crowds are lower. You can't go up in the tower, but they're still giving tours and running the simulator rides.

That it's a miracle my kids (and their friends) aren't illiterate felons since I forgot to send them to the "good" schools here.

Felons? Heck, it's a miracle that I'm a junior in college with a 3.42 GPA since I graduated from the "bad" T.C. Williams HS or spent the other years of my K-12 education in "struggling" RoVA public schools.

Want to hear another miracle? I never attended school in NoVa at all, yet I was a National Merit Finalist in 1958. I know, prehistoric times before gifted and talented placements. I went to school in West Virginia (horrors, no TJ)
