Sniper's apology brings closure, no justice - CNN.com

I like to think of myself as a forgiving person, but this young man's shooting spree in northern Virginia caused so much pain. I'm glad he's gotten a chance to rehabilitate, but I don't think he should be allowed to have any contact with his victims. In fact, he shouldn't contact or visit Northern Virginia in any way ever again.

If I was one of his victims, I would never, ever, ever, ever want find a letter like this in my mail. It just opens up old wounds. I felt like one of his victims even though I wasn't one of the people shot, and I don't want to hear from him again. Just my opinion, what do you think?

Surely the prison officials alerted the man that he was going to receive this letter. Otherwise how would Malvo have gotten his home address? So it wasn't a complete surprise and he must have been ok with it.

To be honest, I'm not gonna get mad for anyone for forgiving Malvo and wanting to have contact him. Each of us has our own way of forgiving people and I'm not gonna judge his victims for their ways.

I'm not mad, just curious if you'd want to receive a letter like that. And, I'm not judging the victim. If anything, I'm disgusted with Malvo. If he wants to write a letter like that for closure, he should just write it and mail it to himself. If the victim wants to hear an apology, then I guess it's ok. I know I would never want to get a letter like that, it wouldn't change anything and it just opens up old wounds. And you know what, it's lame to send an apology in the mail. If someone's going to apologize for a major offense, they need to look me in the eye.

I don't think I would want it. I'd probably want to just move on and not be reminded of the experience.
