OK, so we are in the process of buying in Belmont, and I can't seem to get much info...We love the community ammenities, the safety aspect etc, but I have questions about the community itself and surrounds:

1- Is it as kid-friendly as I have heard? (we have two under the age of 7)
2- Is it at all interracial-couple friendly?
3- What are good preschool programs (mornings/afternoons only) close by?
4- Are there any good salons for catering to black hair?-Indulging myself
5- What is your favourite thing about Belmont, and your least favourite thing about living there?

Thanks so much in advance!!

I don't know the area that well, but I can tell you it's fine for interracial families. My favorite thing about Belmont CC is the concert series in the summer. Two years ago I saw Blues Traveler there. Also that 70's soft rock group America. Families sit on the grass, toss beach balls, and picnic. Not bad for a community concert.

I don't live there but have friends who do. As it happens I know of one inter-racial couple who live there; so there's at least one!

There are many, many preschools in the Ashburn area so the trick is to find one that is a good match for your child and your family. Enrollment has begun for most of them so start looking sooner rather than later.

It is kid friendly and there is a moms group within the community. There are also moms groups unaffiliated with BCC that you can consider as well. Precisely how kid friendly you find it depends on where you live: some streets have more kids than others; some streets have more stay at home parents than others; etc. When warmer weather comes you probably can meet kids/parents at the pool and parks. The best thing to do is check out the houses around the one you plan to buy and see if you find evidence of kids living nearby. Ashburn as a whole has a LOT of kids but the number and ages near you will vary.

There's a salon in almost every shopping center in Ashubrn so between those and ones in Leesburg and Sterling I'm sure you'll find one you like. I have heard good things about Salon Cielo and Spa in the Lansdowne shopping center in terms of ethnic hair.

Hope this helps!

I know a couple who used to live in Belmont CC - in a house backing the course. It was nice, but they didn't enjoy its location, and eventually moved. I remember one time they were having drinks on their deck and one of the golfers came over and complained that they were being too noisy. Like many other golf course communities, there are stricter rules about the appearance of your house (particularly color of deck, trim, etc.) if your house backs to the course.

As for your specific questions - Ashburn in general is fairly diverse and 100% child-friendly. No worries about that. For preschool - you just missed the MOMS Clubs of Ashburn annual preschool information forum. They hand out a spreadsheet of information on the area preschools, and parents from some of the programs speak about their child's preschool. It was very informative. You could probably get a copy of the spreadsheet from the MOMS Club of Ashburn Village Area (which includes Belmont CC).

The community is nice. One draw back to the community that you should be aware of prior to going to the settlement table is their $2500 move in fee. This is not refundable and non negotiable. However, you could ask the seller to pay it. It is a crap fee.

The preschool spreadsheet I posted previously incorrectly listed Winwood's rates as monthly. They are weekly. Attached is a corrected spreadsheet. Sorry about that!
