it's not a done deal. Notice the one guy who said that they have budget flexibility, and they need to spend smarter. Controlled spending is the key here, not taxing us to death.

If Fairfax County Schools believed in controlled spending, they wouldn't be sending out flyers to encourage parents to go online to beg county officials to raise property taxes to the max tax rate just to fund the budget at the same level of the boom times.

You're only telling half the story here. Assessed values will drop so the actual tax should be close to the same. Also, keep in mind your property tax is fully deductible on your federal taxes so in actuality you're only paying about 75% of the tax out of pocket.

Too many Democrats moved to this area. Taxing more is not the answer, it's called PLANNING and CONTROL. $200 Million dollar school complexes are the reason the FFX county is in such a hole right now.

Most people closer to the beltway will end up paying more than they did last year since property values hold better.

This was the case for me last year.

It still doesn't change the fact that Fairfax County School System needs some belt tightening. Areas to be considered for cutting include free summer school, subsidized sports fees, and full language immersion. I would rather focus those monies on offering full day kindergarten for all elementary schools.

Otherwise, there should be a line item on the Virginia state tax form for people who want to pay more taxes to do so voluntarily as a donation to the good commonwealth.

Aren't you lucky! In Loudoun the tax was $1.24 last year and this year it is being raised to $1.41!

I'm waiting to see what Prince William County does. My assessment decreased by 4.77%, but I'm sure our tax rate will go up by far more than that. I wouldn't be at all surprised by at least a 10% increase in tax rate, if not more. They haven't announced any proposed tax rate yet.

I have a property in City of Manassas, that I'm also curious to see what will happen, but they haven't even come out with the new assessments yet. I'm thinking assessments there may rise - as I have signed a contract to sell that property (a townhouse) - and the sales price is 20% above last year's assessment!

I totally agree controlling prices and better planning are important pieces of the puzzle. But taxes are going up folks, whether we like it or not.
