Default Things to do within half mile of Rosslyn Metro Station

I'm meeting someone who's taking a bus to town and wants to meet up with me at the Rosslyn Metro Station. My plan is to go a few hours early and explore Rosslyn a little. Any suggestions of interesting things to see or do within a half mile of the Rosslyn Metro Station? I thought I might walk across the Key Bridge (that's always somewhat amusing) but am open to other suggestions.

You can walk over to Iwo Jima. You can also go up to the restaurant/lounge at the top of the Key Bridge Marriott and take in the lovely view.

Georgetown is a good idea, like you suggested. Iwo Jima is a good idea as well. If your friend will have already eaten, you could walk up Wilson to Ray's Hell Burger and eat one of the DC area's best burgers.

ABC7 is located in Rosslyn. They may have tours or something interesting to look at there, but I didn't find anything like that on their website.

Otherwise...I live in Rosslyn. While it's super convenient to many places, it's not the most exciting neighborhood.

I vaguely recall something about the Newseum being turned into a cultural arts center. If they finished the project, that might be worth a gander or two. As I recall there's a cool park next to it, too.

I like the idea of crossing the bridge and wandering up and down Georgetown. How much time do you think I should plan to do that? I don't want to get stuck in Georgetown and then not have enough time to get back and meet my friend.

BTW, where's the best place to park near the Rosslyn Metro?

Falls Church

There are some parking garages very close to the Metro, but otherwise, there are lots of metered spots on Wilson and Clarendon (heading toward Court House) and the side streets. Parking is free after 6 or 6:30 and on weekends (some meters still need to be fed on Saturdays, though). It's not the easiest place to park, but none of my friends have ever needed more than 5-10 minutes to find a space, so it's not as bad as, say, Dupont Circle.

I work in Rosslyn!

First off, if you do decide to go over to Georgetown, I'd recommend taking the "Blue Bus" - which runs a constant back-and-forth loop between the Rosslyn Metro station and M-street across the bridge in Georgetown. The walk from Rosslyn to Georgetown takes about 20-25 minutes -- but since you only have a few hours, the blue bus would get you there much quicker. More details here: Georgetown Metro Connection | Georgetown BID | Washington DC (http://www.georgetowndc.com/getting-here/shuttle - broken link)

If you're staying within Rosslyn, your options really depend on whether it is a weekday or weekend. On weekdays, Rosslyn is an active place - but on Weekends it is almost completely deserted.

Definitely check out this events calendar to see if anything lines up with the day that you're stopping by Rosslyn:
March 2010 Calendar | Rosslyn BID & Rosslyn Renaissance

Enjoy!

Bring a scarf if you don't take the bus over. Key Bridge is windy.
