My question is...

Why does everyone want to be weird?

The Tenderloin District of San Francisco is weird. The thought of anything around here being weird is laughable as it's so conventional. I agree it's probably a marketing schtick by the local Chamber of Commerce.

Other cities seem to be losing their 'weird" areas. They're falling into disrepair and some are becoming dangerous. Austin just notfied the owner of one of their better known icons of weirdness that it had to come down, and if the ower wants to rebuild it it has to be built to code standards.

LOL, you just reminded me that we used to have a very amusing thread with local ghost stories. Most of them were in the Reston/Herndon area. I'll have to see if I can find that.
