Hi everyone. Now I'm having to get down to specific properties. Thanks for your ongoing support...invaluable because I am having to make a rental choice remotely...with no time for a looksee trip...and I start May 1.

Would appreciate your observations on the following specific properties that are available in terms of (a) visual and/or snob value of immediate surrounding area (b) suitability for walking as a primary form of exercise 2x daily, would like to go 3-ish miles, with limited danger issues from darkness, bad 'hoods, fast roads etc. and (c) just which one you would choose in general.

I'm mid 40s, no kids, with 2 medium sized dogs and need to rent for a year or two on assignment.

House porn? That's when you sit in your pajamas on a Sunday morning and look at a bunch of listings/shelter magazines/decor catalogs just for fun....

My vote would be for 805 Golden Arrow in Great Falls. You would be very close to the Village Center, you can take Georgetown Pike to get to 495 for comuting to anywhere near the beltway and will be close to D.C. It is quiet, very safe for walking and jogging and is beautiful country. The older residents are very down to earth and friendly. I don't know the other areas well enough to comment.

I would vote for #1 as (a) the neighborhood is a great one in McLean, and, if I recall correctly, you'll be working in McLean/Tysons, so the commute will be easy, (b) the neighborhood is very walking friendly, which is a must have due to your dogs, and (c) it is convenient to the more urban parts of Arlington for "want to get out of the house" times.

You may want to consider doing zillow.com searches to get a (very rough) sense of value of houses in the immediate area, too.
