Thanks to everyone who responded. We are definitely hoping to find places in McLean, and we're looking at Vienna and Falls Church since they seem to be close. If anyone has any information on apartment complexes we should look at, that would be helpful. We've found a few, but could always use more. The only reason we are looking at Arlington and Alexandria is we aren't sure where my job would be (possibly DC), so it is an attempt at a middle ground. Can anyone tell me how long of a commute we're looking at from Arlington or Alexandria to McLean?

We've narrowed our search to Pearson Square (Falls Church), Regents Park (Vienna) and The Reserve at Potomac Yard (Alexandria). Has anyone had any experiences with these properties?

The Reserve is brand-new. It's convenient to the Potomac Yards shopping center just up the street. You might get some street noise from busy Route 1 unless you're able to request a unit towards the back. I would say your greatest concern would be from commuters and shoppers driving around with tunnel vision than any unwanted pedestrian attention.
