My cousin just got a 5th HOV violation in 4yrs but there is no mention of fine for 5th violation. Does it mean fine for 4th violation applies or is there another rate for 5th violation?

The fine reaches the maximum of $1,000 at the fourth offense, with three points. So, a fifth is the same as the fourth.

That doesn't make any sense to me at all. A fair risk? It's against the law. *sigh. It's called self-discipline. It means doing the right thing even when no one is watching. What about the other thousands and thousands of people people stuck in traffic because they obey the law? I don't understand how a person could breeze along alone in an HOV lane while thousands of law abiding citizens quietly wait their turn in traffic. How on earth do you justify that type of behavior?

With the 4th offense carrying the penalty of $1,000 and 3 points on your license, I would hope that for those who are too dense/stupid/self-absorbed to learn
from four violations of the same traffic law would, upon a 5th violation, get their license suspended.
I can understand taking a calculated risk and getting caught .. once, maybe even twice. Beyond that, I think it's perfectly legitimate to call a person's mental capacity and/or common sense into question.

Do not put words in my mouth. I didn't defend it, I just said it may seem a fair risk to him to do it b/c he likely got away with it a few times. I think it's wrong but the cops can't catch everyone who does it.
