How about a bakery? Chantals in Sterling is excellent. You pay more but tastes so good! I too live in Ashburn and have twins so we order cakes often for various celebrations. I have done Costco and I find it good for the price. I have done Wegmans and don't care for it that much. It's just ok. I have done Chantals and LOVE it. And I have done a little at home cake baker in Brambleton. I think its called Little White House cakes or something like that. It was the BEST cake we have ever had. Everyone was asking for her number, lol!

My friend is a food snob and if she has to buy a cake instead of making it herself, she goes to wegmans.

I like Wegmans - Giant and Safeway cakes are always have that fake, grainy, sickly sweet icing

My friend and I are too--especially cake snobs. We really dislike the Wegman's birthday-style cakes.

Has anyone else tried Chantels in Sterling? We tried a Giant cake yesterday as a tester.. it was awful ;(. (don't mean to offend, but I wasn't even tempted to break my diet on that one!)

No offense! I like *some* Giant sheet cakes--not all. There is a particular one that my mom uses in Maryland that has its own bakery and it has wonderful cakes. The one by my house--terrible.

I haven't tried the bakery you reference but I thought someone upthread mentioned it. I have hit or miss luck with private bakeries and true "birthday" cakes. I find many of them to have a stale or dry cake, while the frosting might be good. A lot of people rave about Hollin Hills and Alexandria Pastry Shoppe. Their cakes are good but they aren't true birthday cakes but more of the european style cakes.
