I don't know about Springfield but we just bought my twins new beds and we liked Belfort in Sterling. THey had a good selection and I thought decent prices. There is a place in Manassas I believe...something like Baby to Teen or something like that...they sell furniture that grows with you.
We bought Maxtrix and it will grow with them..Here is the link. Took 8 weeks to come in from Belfort but worth it.
Kids Bedroom Furniture - Maxtrix Kids Furniture, USA - Boys & Girls Furnishings

Good luck!

Baby To Teen also has "back room" with slightly imperfect furniture. We got a much higher end piece of furniture for the same price as cheaper furniture b/c it had a small gouge in it.

The RoomStore in Annandale has a pretty good selection of kids furniture Roomstore.com - RoomStore Furniture Stores

Pottery Barn Kids (Fair Oaks Mall) has high quality (though pricey).

We got beds and dressers for our kids at Walmart (Burke) - they've been holding up surprisingly well.

check out this site:
Lea Industries (http://www.leaindustries.com/newindex.asp - broken link)

They have a great selection. I found a set we liked and then went to the closest retailer (Furniture Discount Center in Ft. Washington) and ordered it from them. It took about two weeks for it to arrive. We love it.

Looks like Kincaid Home Furnishings in Ashburn also carries this line.

Baby 2 Teen has really nice, quality furniture. Expensive, but nice.

Buy Buy Baby carries a wide range of baby furniture, it's where we got our son's crib which converted to a full size bed. Not sure about older kids furniture. We spent a lot on it but good thing as he ate it, so he's at least not full of toxic paint. They have a store in Springfield and Rockville (I like Rockville better).

I think one of the best places around for baby & kid furniture is Great Beginnings in Gaithersburg. It's a haul but worth it. They also have a "back room" with discounted pieces. Really nice, great quality furniture.

Of course, there's Ikea. This is where son #2 got his crib & dresser and we love it! Super cheap but considering son#1 ate his crib til it nearly became just wood shavings we didn't do the $600 crib again. They also have one in Woodbridge and College Park (?) MD.

Love Costco, so check them out online. They carry a lot of furniture online. And Belfort in Sterling is great as it is huge! And there's always Craigslist--I see son#2's furniture on there all the time.

Keep in mind most of the furniture in this country is now made in China. We bought our bedroom set from Scan a couple of yrs ago and it took months to get it b/c it was coming from China. It's junk, I like my son's Ikea set so much better!
