There are a handful of tower and garden style apartments on Duke Street, Reynolds Street,Yoakum, Whiting, etc..all/most of these apartments are 10+ years old, so they aren't going to be perfect by any means! But their location is phenomenal especially if you have to commute North.

Windsor at Arbors is nice right off of Duke Street, but their units are modest in size though. The location is in a safe, and very convenient location. It's probably one of the better apartments on the west side of Duke Street. The Garden style apartment complex west of London Towers apartmens is pretty nice too...

I would just like to say that you can't believe everyhting you read.. I LIVE IN CARYDALE EAST... and have been for 2 years this August and have not had any problems. This Building is Designed for People that work Young and Old. The Staff is Very Friendly , and you very seldom see peopl just hanging out. When i 1st moved here I worked the Grave yard Shift for VDOT and i never worried Coming or Going. Life is what you make it. yes, dpending on what time you decide to come in there is always a cab at the King st metro. and i myself have walked home late night alone. the Reason BEing is the Alexandria Police are very much present in the area to try and keep what could be at bay. Carydale East also Now HAs Police that live in the Bulding along with reserved Parking Just for Them. ANd for even more Conveince there is a Grocery Store Right in the Bulding So you don't have to Walk all the way to Giant grocery Store Down the street. The Bus to LAndmark heading West stops in front of the Building and the Bus Headed towards King St metro is in front across Duke Street. I used the Bus Myself and find it very Convieneant.
and if you are alone than a studio or Jr 1 bedroom would probably be your best bet. oh and di I mention ALL UTILITIES Are included .
(gas & Electric) the persons who gave the BAD review Must have made aproblem for themselves. O now work in Old Town and find the Experience here Great

Coco-
That place is obviously bad news for most people living there, so, thanks, but really, no thanks. I believe the bad reviews, I'd be a fool not to.

Windsor at Arbors also seems pretty nice, and not terribly expensive. However, some of the posters on aptratings complained of roaches (maybe they were filthy), and car vandalism (characteristic of Duke Street?).

Interesting you should say "negative activity". From what I understand, Carydale Apartments is right around the corner from Windsor at Arbors. I never revealed where I got my information on CE from, but I have decided against moving there because 1) It's not rated too highly on ANY of the apartment rating sites and 2) friends in the area who don't think too highly of it. And suffice it to say, I don't believe you've contacted every rater about the reviews they've given. Not everyone was pissed off and vindictive when they rated Carydale.
If you live there and like it, kudos, but I don't think it's a good place for me.
