I couldn't say for sure. I have some ties to LA Fitness through my racquetball circuit but obviously they are like any other corp. They study demographics and feel out the market in areas and try to get their finger on the pulse of what's needed and where.

I can only say that there is a gap between Sterling and the few clubs closer to DC so clubs springing up in between is only a matter of time.

I'm with others on this thread - Lifetime Fitness is AMAZING (I'm in the Sterling one)... not sure about the Centerville one. We didn't pay an initiation fee, but not sure if that is a timing thing or not, as we joined in Feb. 2009.

Reston folks love the YMCA for all sorts of reasons. The kids running around the gym yelling (the gym echos up to the workout floor) always got on my nerves.. and I was always waiting to use the weights or for a treadmill. But the equipment was nice, and the FITLINX system was awesome!

I've heard good things about WASHINGTON SPORT AND FITNESS, but they have start up fees, etc.

I'd say make the drive to Lifetime b/e they are 24/7, and that's worth a lot to someone that likes access to everything along with moments of peace from the kids... but that's me.
