Default Suggestions for housing in Clarendon/Arlington?

Hi all,

I'm a professional in my mid-20s relocating to the Northern VA/D.C. area. I will be working in the District but want to live in Virginia, and the Clarendon/Arlington Courthouse area appears to be a great fit for me. The problem is housing. I am finding myself increasingly frustrated with the housing search in that area and am open to suggestions about great apartment buildings/condos for rent that are super-close to the Metro. I have looked at a couple of apartment buildings that are less than appealing and have turned my focus to rentals on Craigslist. b

I am looking for a 1-bedroom place, preferably with a den and/or balcony. In terms of rent, I'm pretty flexible and can afford a more expensive place; however, I would like to find something reasonable for a 1-bedroom (or am I being unreasonable?). Perhaps that's a better question....what should I expect to pay for a nice (meaning newer building, great amenities) 1-bedroom place 1-2 blocks from the metro in that area?

Thank you in advance for your suggestions and advice!

I would say at a minimum, you may be looking at $1,400+/mth based on your criteria.

Pick up either of these two publications...you can find them at any 7-Eleven or Bus/Metro stop.

Apartment Showcase.com - Apartments For Rent - Apartment Search in Maryland, Washington DC, Northern Virginia
ApartmentGuide.com - apartments for rent, apartment finder

And seriously let your fingers, and eyes to the walking and exploring. Once you identify an apartment that meets your criterias...take the time to personally visit each one.

Default Curious as well.

I have heard there is a glut of housing in the Clarendon area and I'm curious if anyone knows of websites that might be able to give me an indication as to building occupancy. The goal is to be able to intelligently bargin with regards to rent. I have heard that a lot of the condos in the area are sitting empty because owners bought several units in a hope to sell them off and are now sitting on these apartments waiting for the market to bounce back. Hopefully I can find out how populated a building might be and negotiate a lower rent with the condo owner who may be looking to recoup some of a poor investment.

I have never heard of a "glut" of housing in the Clarendon area.. Be interested to see what you get back on that.
