Default Gary is that bad

Gary is the worst area I have seen, a larger version of East St. Louis. Harvey lloks a lot like Gary and Calumet City seems to be on its way there. I was in Harvey last night to meet up with some biker buddies for a fundraiser "Renegade Riders", very cool and welcoming people. You couldn't pay me to live in such an area with abondoned factories and rails and abandoned stores, pretty sad. Still, I met some cool people though I doubt I am coming to Harvey again anytime soon.

A buddy of mine, 6'6" with blond hair bought gas in Gary 8 years ago and managed to get lost. While trying to get back to the expressway he blew a stop sign and was promptly pulled over by a black cop. The cop asked him what he was doing blowing the stop sign and my friend said he just wanted to get back to the highway. The cop told him "Don't worry about stop signs just keep going straight on this road and get the He#@ out of here. It isn't safe for you.".

With stories like that, well Gary Sucks is putting it mildly.

And the poster who worked for the casino and went to Purdue Calumet, why do you want to come back to Gary unless to work as social worker? My mother actually did this in the late 60s and early 70s. She gave up on that area and its people years ago. Now, she works with crystal meth addicts who she sees more potential with. That is pretty sad that she sees more potential with crystal meth addicts than the poor of Gary.

I think we should just bulldoze the entire town and start over. That area is a cesspool with no hope of recovery.

This is an excellent post. It's hard to keep a straight face when reading or listening to people talk about how much potential Gary has, its lakefront property and how the town can be revitalized. Never say never, but it'll be a long time before Gary is revitalized and it's likely to get worse before it gets better.

There used to be Arby's in Gary.

There was one on 5th Ave going towards Brunswick, and there was one in Glen Park.

Well, I don't mind being caught in the middle of gang crossfire, but this is too much!

Have some respect.......: mad:
This gentleman, my friend, did lose his brother.
His brother WAS murdered in the Arby's.

You have the audacity to disregard his "heartache" as hearsay and disrespect him and his family?
You are contemptuously rude
your written words are impertinent and meaningless.
You are why people like us no longer call Gary home.

Get out your WEBSTER'S......

Arbys was located at 53rd and Broadway back then. The Church was 49th Ave Missionary Baptist located at 49th and Pennsylvania. Gary doesnt need me to make up lies to make it rotten. The people there do just fine on their own! Of course YOUR children are perfect angels right?
