Thanks RAZZ! Those words were obviously written by someone who has NO CLUE that Gary ACTUALLY was a nice place at one time. Its the uncaring ways of people like that that make Gary the cesspool it is today. Have a GREAT DAY MY FRIEND!!!!!!

IUN not great either
" The only remaining bright spot of Gary is IUN, and the neighboring golf course and its surrounding neighborhood."
Sorry EKRZ, but IUN isn't a bright spot anymore.Someone has their hand in the cookie jar there, too. No money = lack of tenured, qualified profs, bad conditions, so qualified adjuncts are refusing to work there. PUC is a much better choice for post-secondary public education, or Valpo U for private.

What a bunch of idiots who have never even been to Gary. First of all if you would keep your drug buying heroin addicted kids in the other municiple areas surrounding Gary, OUT of Gary there would be no drug dealers. Secondly if it weren't for Gary you wouldn't have a decent paying job. Gary has U.S. Steel, Boeing and many other fine companies that afford you your cowardly lifesyle. There is more new construction going on in Gary than most of Lake County. Yes there is a high crime rate, but it gets played up here more by the controlling media that does not want to see a mostly black city succeed( Given Indiana's KKK history ) take that too Valpo and smoke it. There are a lot of white owned businesses in Gary that make a lot of money here and will continue to thrive. If you haven't noticed Peerless potato chips hasn't gone anywhere and Cloverleaf Dairy wants to move back. New housing is going up in every neighborhood in Gary. Crime is everywhere I was in the military and have scene the world. It all boils down to what you want to live with and what you can afford. For most black people living in Gary is great, because they don't get harrassed by the cops and their is respect for the cops as the numbers don't tell that COPS DO NOT GET MURDERED HERE like in Houston or LA. I can live with 60 murders compared to an average of 2 a day in Chicago and Gary has a feel of its own. I can go to the beach, attend baseball and basketball games and go to the casinos NOW show me where anyone has gotten murdered there. Don't be afraid open your minds drive 1 block past Broadway and see the new housing or the small farm homes. Quit being racist because 1 day with the right leadership Gary can rebound.

I wish Gary would succeed - but success comes from within. Stop blaming others (the media, KKK, etc.) and take control of YOUR community and change it's reputation.

So parents in Valpo are racist because-
1-they want their kids to go to a school where they will ACTUALLY get educated.
2-they want to live somewhere they can go to the store, school, church or anywhere else they choose to go without fear for their safety.
3-they want municipal tax $ collected from them to actually be used for some constructive purpose.
These things make them racist? Sounds to me like it makes them good parents. Families flee crime and corruption no matter what color skin is commiting it!

This really shouldnt be a race issue at all. It seems as though many of the posts here have devolved into mudslinging. At one time Gary was a big part of the area and in most respects it still is. BUT!!!! (theres allways a but) Gary and the surrounding communities problems have EVOLVED from a few corrupt officials and politics. Face it people, the property tax hikes have been way overdue. People have been running to Indiana for years BECAUSE of the lower taxes. Does anyone out there have an idea on what that good old taxe rate did for the educational system for "the school city of" ? What quality did that provide and what have those students done with that good old education?
If you dont have the tools to succeed you won't.
