My daughter has struggled with major depression for years now. She has been seeing a counselor that she likes in Illinois for some time now, but this counselor is moving her office to the North side of Chicago, which isn't feasible for us. She briefly attended a group here, but most of the people in the group were age 30 and up, and she didn't feel like she could relate to them or vice versa, as she's 20. She's too old for an adolescent program so she's at an in-between kind of stage in her life. I'd like to find her a therapist nearby, but since we've just moved here and our connections are in Illinois it's hard to find a recommendation. I'm not finding much online. Anyone who has anything or anyone to suggest, it would be much appreciated.

Thanks for the link Chuckity!
Yes, it is a shame. The counselor she was seeing in IL was already pretty far away from this area, and was for children and adolescents, so couldn't really make a referral. She does have a referral to someone for meds, so when she sees her I'm sure they'll give her someone's name but it would be nice to have other recommendations handy in case that didn't work out. It's such a hit or miss thing to find the right person that can really help.

We also have the Southlake Center for Mental Health, and Porter Starke Services. I notice no one mentioned them. Is there a problem with them that I'm unaware of that subject2change should know about?

Confidential Care in Munster, IN offers Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) therapy for depression. It's like a big dentist chair the patient sits in and the device pulses magnetic waves to the area of the brain which is understimulated and causing depression. People are seeing results in a little as two weeks and no meds.
