I am a pretty avid kayaker and was wondering if people had any suggestions on places relatively nearby that would have kayaks and canoes for rent and would be a good trip. I know there are the kankakee, tippacanoe, and turkey run nearby, any others? And any opinions on good places to go?

true and youll pay 4.50$ a gallon in gasoline if you happen to go to deep into the state. Also its probably out of the way and if you do it in a park ill bet park admissions are also more expensive in Illinois.

There are plenty of free parks in the Forest preserves of cook, lake and will county (free)
I knew this person once who would skip showers to save on the cost of soap.
I also knew a person who was so scared to spend an extra dime he missed some of the best things life had to offer because he was always fretting about a lost nickel.
The views from a boat in downtown Chicago are awesome.
There are not too many cities in America where you can navigate
the canyon of skyscrapers its a great time and you can get some awesome pictures if you desire
Not saying its for everyone but if your looking for something different its well worth the extra dime.
If the kayaker wanted to travel along the shores of Lake Michigan that is feasavle as well for free
To me its worth the extra dime

I won't rule out Chicago, but $65 for a three hour paddle in a city is more than an extra dime. I usually spend that much for three people to do a 15 mile river trip, which lasts a lot longer than 3 hours. Not to mention the lack of serenity compared to a wooded river. It's an interesting concept, to see a city by kayak, I'll give it that.

I was actually googling this subject- Southern Michigan seems to have a lot of steams and rivers that feed into lake Michigan.
Never been kayaking except once in hawaii and it was pretty cool I really enjoyed that day.
I haved actually thought about buying one at one point. The St. Joseph river in Indiana is a good waterway maybe you could give that a try.
