Smile Northern Indiana

I thinking about relocating to Northern Indiana. What can you tell me about La Porte vs Michigan City? What are the pro and cons of these cities? I'm ready to leave the rat race of Chicago.

I can't say that I blame you, but why those 2 cities? I used to live in Valparaiso and Chesterton is nice too.

Smile Why

My job will require travel between South Bend and Gary, I'm look for a place in the middle. I heard from some friends that La Porte was a nice community, they take their boat there during the summer for the lakes.

My neighbors daughter lives in LaPorte with her fiance and they hate it. She spends most of her time in South Bend if she wants to shop, eat, etc. When we lived in Valpo, my husband worked in SB ... about an hour door to door and we lived on the south side of Valpo, south of 30 ... if you live on the northside of town, close to SR49, you'll be good.

My daughter lives & works in LaPorte, her boyfriend lives in Michigan City.

LaPorte is a small town and the County seat, it seems nice to me.

My son used to live in Valpo, but relocated to LaPorte County. It seems the urban sprawl from Lake County has arrived in Porter County. Every time I go to Valpo it seems the traffic gets worse.

If you're looking for a quiet community with great schools, Valparaiso and Chesterton are the places to look. We moved to Valparaiso because my husband has a sales territory that goes from the IN/IL border over to South Bend. Valparaiso is exactly in the middle! I'm used to suburban traffic where we used to live in Indy so Valpo seems extremetly minor in that respect. The mayor is working very hard to make lots of infrastructure improvements and there are many parks here. This is a great community for a family.
