I worked the railroad in the 70's Gary, E. Gary and Miller the gangs that held property can have it. You would have to see it from the warehouse side to believe it. Peeps livin boxcars, empty buildings whole familys. I was scared to death when an ice storm took out the railroads signals and we had to sit in E. Miller for 2 hours on New Years Eve. Beer bottles hit the locomotive cab about every 5th car. Not to mention the peeps walkin cussin us.

I lived in GlenPark for quite a few years as a Child almost thirty years ago, and I can tell you what happened to Gary is ashame. I remember, Sears, JCpenney, and all the stores on Broadway and 5th. We moved to Hammond when Hatcher came to Power, Black, White, or polka a dotted, that man laid the ground work for what happened in Gary, Greedy Politicians sucked what little was left away from the people and left a shell of what was a vibrant city, kinda of like the fall of Rome. Being that I am from the Region, People often think that all people from Gary are nothing but criminals, As a Paramedic that worked those streets, I quickly tell them this is not true, there are many wonderful families that live in Gary, Many wonderful people, that would never harm a soul, and would give you the shirt off their back, However, that does not make the good old Hammond Times, and no one cares, that these people are terroized by these gun wielding punks and drug dealers. It makes me laugh, that good ole George W. Bush was worried about securing democracy in Iraq, while at the same time, people in a city like Gary are a afraid to play in the front of there houses with their kids due to urban terrorist, and that you have mill workers that retired who lost everything, and hungry children in the backbone of the US. Oh! Yeah, this was the same administration that left people to die in a storm ravaged city, what was in common, oh yeah, poor black communities!! I m sure that was just a fluke!! Yeah Right!!!! Just my two cents!!!
