Have you settled on an area yet? The very best place to look at homes is through gniarmls.com. It's the Greater Northwest Indiana Association of Realtors MLS - the same one Realtors use just without professional info.
Thanks for the suggestion... sounds like a lot of people would choose Valpo from what I have gathered. My husband is concerned it is too far to Chicago. Glad it takes under an hour by car.

After reading everyones comments to my husband he thinks Valpo seems like a reallly great area and it is going to be first on our list of visits.

Put it on your list of places to visit! Try to stay as far north and as close to state road 49, but still in the Valpo school system. Just tell a realtor that information and they'll know that your husband will need to get to the train conveniently. The Dune Acres train station is at the end of state road 49, near the beautiful Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore.

Default A lot of Vineyards

Southwestern Michigan is known for it's wineries. Tabor Hill has a great restaurant and winery in Buchanon, MI, about a 1 hour drive from Valpo.

Valpo is in the Lake Effect snow belt that frequently drops alot of snow on the area.

You'll find much more in Chicago than in Rochester.
