Schererville help! (Gary, Hope: mover, crime, living in)

I'm thinking about living in Schererville because I recently got a job in Chicago. I need help from you locals about some things thats not so easy to look up!

Do you like Schererville? Is there anything to do and is traffic bad? I know its near Gary and I've heard they have their issues with crime...do you feel safe in Schererville? One last question! Are the people nice?!

Sorry for all the questions! I'm a nervous mover and want to make sure that this is where I want to be!

Schereville is a great place to live, although it's not that close to Gary, it's about a 30 minute drive at least. There is very little crime and the people are very nice. Traffic can be bad on weekends in the most populated areas of town, where all the stores are (Rt30 and Rt41), but you learn how to avoid it. Hope that helps. Schererville is a nice place in the sense it's close to Chicago, has a lot of dining/shopping nearby and housing prices are fair. It's not the most exciting place, though. Most things are kind of generic: big box stores, chain restaurants, etc.
If you're a younger single person, it's not a place I'd recommend. For people with families, it's much better. It's not that close to Gary and Gary's crime has little (if any) effect on Schererville and its crime (which is quite low). Traffic can pick up at times, but is far better than the IL suburbs of Chicago. It rarely gets that bad.
