valparaiso and north judson
Were moving to Indiana to help my inlaws out with grandma next month. My husband is going out in two weeks to buy a house. we live in Seattle now.
the inlaws live in Westville.I haven't found anything I like in Westville at all. and it seams over priced for what it is.
I found two House I want him to look at. one is in North Judson and the other is in Valparaiso. the Valparaiso house is downtown in the historic district and cute and old. I want an old classic house. I want walking distance to Church and small cute things and shops.
But found this great looking classic Victorian in north Judson i have fallen in love with for a much lower price.
I love the idea of living in a super small town. as the town we live in now has only 6000 people.
but will North Judson be too small.
Laporte is cute but with 47 sex offenders in the downtown historic district and three small kids i own i wont consider it.
I know NJ is further to drive to help with grandma but don't wanna be passing up on an opportunity to save money and live in a quaint place.
Also we are leaving our jobs behind too. for a few months we'll be OK but eventually we both need to get back to work.are there any jobs at all near North Judson at all? of any kind?

Go to Valpo!!! Don't move to North Judson. It's a scary little town and you'll wish you'd moved over a little to the west to Valpo. Valpo schools are some of the best in the state, North Judson's schools are lousy in comparison.

Valpo hands down. Especially if you have kids - there are far more opportunities for children in the Valpo area.
We have family that lives in North Judson ... one drives 35 miles to work in Westville, the other drives 50 miles in the other direction for a factory job.
The cheaper house in North Judson isn't worth it.

Yeah the more I read what everyone says about Valpo I wanna go there
This is gonna be such a change.
I am so glad i found this board. I am gonna be bugging everyone for advise.
I think Joe is still gonna look at the house in NJ but I'm sure the town will have him running. I have a tendency to wear black clothes and would hate to be arrested for just being strange.or burned at the stake for being a witch.I just have that kind of vibe about it.
I do however want to go to Baileys at toto...

Bailey's ROCKS!!! I love going there. I live almost 4 hours away and I still manage to make time to go there. I use to live in Valpo, in fact there's a lady here moving in soon who we all managed to convince to go to Valpo too. Valpo is a college town and is becoming a Chicago suburb more and more each day, so you and your black clothes will fit in You'll be able to get to Bailey's in under an hour from Valpo.

One more side note - if you haven't try searching for NWI homes through this site: Gniarmls . It's the NWI association of Realtors site w/ actual MLS listings - much more detailed than any other web home search. (Though you won't find much of Starke County - it's techanially our of GNIAR's territory.)

dm me the house on Lafayette! I love that neighborhood. The house on main street in North Judson looks cool, but the neighborhood may be tricky.

North Judson is alright, its a simpler life though. People there pretty much live and let live. I've known all kinds of people who have lived in North Judson.
San Pierre (the sister town 5 miles west) did get some grants to revitalize their downtown. You might want to check out what they've done, I haven't seen it in a few years.
I lived in NJ for a couple years after college. Jobs will be harder to come by there - expect to travel, but there are possibilities in the education sector, and manufacturing. The Leader is the local paper and you'll want to pick one up to see whats being advertised.
Its a good place to live if you like high school football, they have a nice (newer) library, churches are big there especially one called English Lake, but there's also a lot of nature... you're near Jasper Pulaski State Park, Bass Lake, and not far from Culver (which is a nice recreation town on the water.)
