There is no heavy industry here.
There have been many changes in Michigan City, in the past couple of years. The projects on Michigan Boulevard have been torn down, which was about the best thing that could have been done, to try to revitalize the City. Most of the old bldgs & a lot of the old homes have been torn down. Some land has to undergo a lot of soil removal. On the corner of 8th Street & Michigan Blvd. Blocksom has to be bought out. Then they can begin to put in place some of the plans they have on the drawing board. Call John P.U. Pugh & Joe Siegel at City Hall and ask what the exact plans are.

At one time this was such a nice & beautiful city. The large Park, Beach, Marina's & large homes. The City seemed to be well run (somewhat) prior to the 1960's. There were bad decisions & laws passed, which were enforced during the middle 60's, & the
City went down hill - QUICKLY !
The City is working on having a 'Riverwalk' along Trail Creek, which will be much like the 'Riverwalk' that is in San Antonio, Texas. The Projects had to be torn down & now this OLD OLD factory which has been on Trail Creek, is still in business for a short time. So - just gotta wait to see what happens.
I didn't know that Chicago people had an image problem with - Michigan City - as there MANY MANY of them here. We now have the Casino Hotel -
If you really want to see some Chicago people & some beautiful scenery, go up to St. Joe, Michigan and drive north on M63 - the people are so much nicer & interesting, plus none of this bigger City BS and politic's. I think our current Mayor is headed in the right direction.
Drive thru Berrien County, especially Coloma - in another couple weeks - all the cherry blossoms / peach blossoms will be in bloom - on acres & acres of beautiful rolling hills. There are plenty of things up there to see & do ( Deer Forest for the kids, Paw Paw Lake, The Chocolate Factory, A wine tasting place, Grandpaw's Cider Mill, a few
Antique stores, & several very nice local restaurants & along Lake Michigan, there is Hagar Bar & Grill, with an extensive menu, Dimaggio's Bar & Pizzeria (BEST pizza this side of Italy) a new up sale restaurant, 'Lake Michigan Breeze ' is now open. They used to have the Crystal Palace on Paw Paw Lake. A dance hall with big bands. I understand it burned down some years ago. The man who'd built it, just recently passed away.
I much prefer the Hagar Shores / Coloma area to NW Indiana, - I go there as often as I can to do my shopping, have lunch or dinner & possibly a drink.
It's VERY relaxing.
