No, they're not.
But, US Steel has carried a lot of the tax burdem for many decades. With the recent re-assessments, people are getting are getting an idea of how much US Steel has paid out over the years, and kept Lake County taxes low.
Metrocity, I won't feel safe in Gary til the crooked politicians & cops are gone.
BTW, do you live in Gary?

My parents still live in Gary and I have part of my business in Gary, so I am there at least 3 times or more a week. I grew up in East Chicago and Gary; and now live in Hammond. As for the crooked politicians, they are all over Lake County not just Gary.

Thats true, I live over in Toledo, OH and much of the inner city is runned down similar to Gary, but definitely not as crime-ridden....

My accuracy is absolutely correct. I never said that Glen Park started at 15th. I said the area to avoid is 15th to downtown. Glen Park is south of 15th and east of Broadway is almost NEVER considered Glen Park. Ask the natives of Gary and they'll tell you that Glen Park is on the WEST side of broadway. Very few people will tell you that Glen park is east of Broadway. It all depends on how long you've lived in the area. So I stand by my accuracy.

I NEVER said I would live in Glen Park. Glen Park is about the only place I would buy a home in Gary, with the exception of Miller beach. How many people have money to live in Millier beach? By the way, I rehab houses in Gary and I've been in homes in Glen Park until very late at night and NEVER had a problem. I'm white, so if they leave me alone, it can't be too bad of a place, now can it?

Hmmm, my Dad grew up on the East side of Broadway, and he along with Aunts, Uncles & Grandparents all called it Glen Park. My Grandfather lived in Glen Park since 1917. Who knew that he was wrong all those years?

I guess I've been wrong for 52 years now!!!! I could have swore I grew up on Indiana street in EAST GLEN PARK. And all those friendly rumbles we got into with those guys from WEST GLEN PARK must just have been a figment of my imagination.

Glen Park is the city south of the Borman east or west of Broadway. Zip Codes 46408 and 46409 to be exact. Areas to avoid though in Gary are numerous to say the least but Gary is not what people think it is. I now live in Indianapolis and I tell people all the time Gary is not like Indianapolis or other cities where people need to do stuff to make a name for themselves. In Gary if you don't bother anyone, no one bothers you.
