Areas to avoid in Gary, IN
Before I was trying to get an apartment on the South Side of Chicago, but I think i'd be better off in Gary, and it wouldnt take me long to get to Chicago anyway. Is there certain areas I should be aware of that may be unsafe in Gary?

There are places in Gary that are fine, the city has an infamous reputation. Growing up on the south side, I doubt there would be too much of a transition for you though.

You wouldn't want to move to Gary. Basically most of Gary is run down and is known for having a high murder rate. |

There have been some attempts made at downtown revitalization, including the U.S. Steel Yard baseball stadium (home to the Gary South Shore RailCats) and the Genesis Convention Center. The Steel Yard looks like a nice stadium; I hope to catch a game or two there this summer. |

The only parts of Gary you need to avoid are the areas in between the city limit signs!  |
