Default good safe place
I am moving to work on the south side of Chicago were is a good/safe place to get a apartment, I dont mind a little bit of a drive.

NW Indiana:
Munster
Highland
Dyer
Crown Point
So. Merrillville
...there are others but these are the closest to Illinois

So. Suburban Illinois:
Homewood
Flossmoor
Tinley Park
